I played my first PRO gig, at the age of 18, with Warren Covington's Tommy Dorsey Band, and for the next seven years until my induction into the US ARMY, I worked with:Tony Pastor, Les And Larry Elgart, The Jimmy Dorsey Band
and Woody Herman's Herd!
I was selected as substitute for the great Jimmy Cleveland and thus became a charter member of Clark Terry's Big Band, which at that time included great musicians: Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Gene Quill, Randy Brecker, Jimmy Owens, Burt Collins, Ron Carter, and Grady Tate.
Clark's band was a co-venture with legendary jazz notables, Alto Saxist Phil Woods and the great trombonist/arranger, Melba Liston.
For the next seven years, I lived and worked in Europe, based in The Netherlands.
I ultimately moved back to the US(LA)
and played and recorded with Art Pepper, Don Ellis, Tito Puente, and Ray Charles.
Today my time is mainly devoted to the life and career of daughter Brooke Pulin, and writing and life partner Kristin Brey McKnight!
